Whether you were one the naysayers or not, one things for sure is that Van Halen can still draw the crowds and put on an entertaining show. It may not resemble their hay day in the 1980’s but this version came to rock to a sold out crowd at Red Rocks Amphitheatre Monday night July 20. All of the Roth signatures were present such as the dancing, high kicks, poses, and wardrobe changes. Roth’s vocals might not be what they were in their glory years but he stays in a comfortable place and delivers good vocals. And of course all of the signature guitar playing and extended solos were present from the legendary Eddie Van Halen. Not to be forgotten laying down their parts very nicely were Wolfgang Van Halen on bass and vocals and Alex Van Halen on drums. At the end of the night the rock icons played a 25 song set delivering a show that longtime fans of the band would come to expect and enjoy.
Guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his band warmed the crowd with a tight set of rocking blues. The set highighted with his huge hit “Blue on Black”.
