Horrible and unexpectedly tragic news this morning unfolds as Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell passed away today. He was 52 years old.

Local 4 reports that the musician’s death is being investigated as suicide, with sources saying Chris was found in his hotel room in Detroit after performing with the band at Fox Theatre. He reportedly had “a something around his neck.”

The source reports: “Sources tell Local 4 Cornell’s wife called a family friend and asked him to check on the singer. That friend forced open the hotel room door where Cornell was found dead in the bathroom with something around his neck. Sources said it appears to be a suicide.”

Soundgarden were in the middle of creative process from their new album. Cornell’s representative stated that the singer’s death was very “sudden and unexpected.”

In one of his final public posts, Chris sent love to his wife Vicky, saying, “To my Vicky. You are an angel and a lioness. The perfect mother and the perfect wife. I love you!” The couple had two children, daughter Toni born in 2004 and son Christopher Nicolas born in 2005.

The band and the family are yet to issue statements. Soon after the news was confirmed, the music world was quick to send condolences as this massive and unexpected tragic shock.
